(Portland, OR) -- Mayor Charlie Hales says he wants to pull the plug on the urban renewal district designed to boost Portland State University. According to the "Portland Tribune," Hales says PSU would be better served by the city expanding the nearby North McAdam Urban Renewal Area, which he says would raise money sooner to support the university. The Education Urban Renewal Area was championed by Hales's predecessor, Sam Adams. The plan called for spending 169-million dollars to renovate PSU buildings, spur redevelopment of surrounding blocks, and construct affordable housing.
