Crook County Asks Governor to be Declared a Drought Emergency

The County Commissioners approved a letter that will ask Governor Kitzhaber to follow suit.

This is the first step toward setting up government aid for farmers and ranchers.

Crook County is the fifth Oregon county to file a motion with the Governor's Office.  Kitzhaber has already approved drought declarations in Malheur, Harney, Lake and Klamath counties.

Current snow levels in Crook County at area reservoirs range between 33 to 64 percent, with no real snow pack to fill the lakes.
