Firefighters are battling a wildland fire 30 miles southeast of Bend. The East Fort Rock Fire is believed to be human caused. Jada Altman is a dispatcher with the Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center says “so far the line has held through the night last night, and we have about a hundred firefighters working on the fire today. We hope to have it contained by this evening. We are going to keep the OHV trails closed through the day today, other than that, i think we will get a handle on it by this evening”
A number of campers in the area near forest road 2510 near spur 300 were informed of the fire and chose to voluntarily leave the area. The area of the fire is a heavily used off road vehicle area. Sunday night a hand line was dug around the fire and the hot shot crew stayed near the fire throughout the night.
