Juniper Canyon Fire Burns Near Prineville

Posted on Monday, July 21, 2008 (PST)

Firefighters made excellent progress Sunday securing the fireline on the Juniper Canyon Fire that burned approximately five miles south of Prineville. The fire remains 40 acres in size and, as of yesterday evening was 50 percent contained. Engine crews from Crook County Fire and Rescue will be on scene today mopping up any remaining hot spots.  The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Central Oregon from 3PM Monday until 5PM Tuesday. Thunderstorms and high winds are possible during this time. Fire crews will be positioned around Central Oregon to respond to any new lightning fires as quickly as possible.   Fire officials would like to remind Central Oregon residents and visitors to use extreme caution when visiting public lands. Learn about the fire restrictions for the location you are planning to recreate in and ensure campfires are cold to the touch before leaving.
