Mill Fire Controlled

Posted on Monday, July 14, 2008 (PST)

The Mill Fire on the Warm Springs Reservation north of Madras broke out Thursday afternoon, July 10, and spread quickly and even jumped the Deschutes River onto Mecca Flats. The fire now is fully controlled after scorching some 3400 acres. Fire Information Office Ken Lydy says they are fortunate the fire went east. If it had gone west several homes, the shopping mall and the Warm Springs Museum could have been destroyed. Another bright spot is that there were no injuries. Lydy said the cause of the wildfire is under investigation.
