Large Controlled Burn Planned Southeast of Bend

Posted on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 (PST)

The National Forest Service today will be engaged in a large controlled burn southeast of Bend in the Coyote Butte area around 11:00 A.M. This burn will cover about 600 acres and residents are asked to not call 9-1-1 to report this fire as it is a controlled burn. Another 600-acre burn is planned for sometime next week. The burns are being conducted to improve forest health and decrease the risk of a catastrophic wildfire by removing some of the undergrowth. The burn will be ignited by helicopter.
