Sunriver Property Owners Deal Silverstar Developers A Setback

Posted on Friday, February 15, 2008 (PST)

A setback for developers wanting to re-make the Sunriver village. Silverstar Destinations had planned on enlarging and renovating the village, but they needed permission to buy another 6.2 acres for their plans. When put to a vote of Sunriver residents, they didn't get it.   Developers needed a 60 percent majority.  The tally is 1783-YES to 1401-NO.  Sunriver Property Owners Association spokesman Brooke Snavely says the big question is if Silverstar will proceed with a 20 acre proposal instead of the initial plan of 26 acres. Proponents of the development believe it's time to give Sunriver a facelift to make it more competitive with other resorts in Central Cregon. Opponents don't want to loose the rural feeling they believe has made Sunriver popular.
